Fashion: NYFW - Fall 2016 (Favorite Shows)
11:43:00 AM
Street style mavens and celebrities only found themselves in NYC last week for a major reason, the shows. Each show scheduled at a different time through out the week seemed to be a blast for attendees. I was able to virtually watch renowned designers showcase their unique collections. Some did so in the most creative ways no one would ever imagine while other stuck to the usual platform that represents their brand. Regardless of what showgoers had on, the designs on the runway were what truly mattered. These pieces from fashion households will certainly be seen in public in a few months or even a few days (I'm definitely on the lookout at the Oscars).
Some shows not only had intriguing looks to display but the atmosphere of their show appeared to be fascinating as well. Those that mastered both aspects and had an all around perfect show in my opinion, were indeed my favorites this season. Here's who made the list:
Michael Kors
No stranger to fashion week, Michael Kors scored with his 35th fall show and exhibited day-to-night looks for an everyday modern girl. Nothing too formal, nothing too casual, his collection comprised of short cocktail dresses and staple coats. He was also able to incorporate quirky decoration in his designs like feathers and dazzling embellishments which made me fall in love.
Christian Siriano
As a top designer in my view, I was honestly so excited to see Siriano's presentation and he did not disappoint. I mean the night before the show, I dreamt of sitting front row. That did not happen but his pieces had me in awe, as expected. With bright colored red and yellow fabric, he added to the classic gray and black and showed epic designs. What made his collection even more distinct and likeable this year was the direction he took to generate an elegantly feminine aesthetic using knits and eccentric braided rope.
Adam Selman
Adam Selman's garments were enticing as well. He made very good use of metallics and his line up had a groovy flair.
Marcel Ostertag
What made Marcel Ostertag's show most captivating was his skilful combination of both popular fall and spring colors. Models strutted in white and other pastel tones but also showed off in a maroon hue... which is huge trend I touched on this season.
Concept Korea
Concept Korea's collection spoke for itself. Each look was a grand design. They mainly used leather and fur to create wearable pieces. One article in particular blew me away... The skirt that has a half of a leather jacket attached to it... Literally one of my favorite items to see throughout the entire week. Phenomenal fashion!
Cushnie Et Ochs
Ideal party apparel was presented at the Cushnie Et Ochs show. The sexy designs had flawless cut-outs and rich material.
Rebecca Minkoff
Rebecca Minkoff's line-up also had a romantic color palette. With flirty frocks and an array of trendy styles, her collection is one you can see in stores near you.
Milly
I was absolutely thrilled with Milly's pieces this season. The idea to showcase winter wear was truly out of this world. With outstanding prints and colors, each design had a fun look in its own way... Definitely my style!
Jason Wu
Jason Wu had a similar contemporary collection as well. He was one to also make use of feathers, prints and vibrant shades... Designs for exemplary street style!
Brandon Maxwell
One who shied away from colors was Brandon Maxwell. He's known to be Lady Gaga's stylist and this was actually his very first collection debut at NYFW. If this is what his first looks like, his future shows could be ground breaking. He unveiled black and white designs that could be unmatched... probably my favorite show in addition to Siriano's.
Alice & Olivia
Retro fashion at its finest, Alice and Olivia took the era inspiration to a new level. Their presentation was filled with cultural patterned garments epitomizing the ultimate Manhattan girl in the 70's. I'm talking Bohemian style... Nothing short of amazing!
Sophie Theallet
Sophie Theallet had significant numbers at her show. Models wore warm colors and portrayed sophistication at its best.
Art Institutes
The Art Institute's runway should surely be applauded. The most elite design students from their organization came together to showcase their collections and it turned out to be an awesome event. The youthful designers this year are obviously forces to be reckoned with.
J. Mendel
J. Mendel gave a show of endless dresses that were eye catching. Exquisite colors and lovely designs... celebs are going to revel this collection.
