Shopping Tips: Thanksgiving Week Edition

10:48:00 PM

Turkey Day is quickly approaching.... I'm really anticipating this day mostly to stuff my face with delicious food but I'm also pretty anxious for the week long crazy door busting sales. This time of the year is the best period to buy anything... whether it's clothing, beauty products, electronics... so many stores will be having awesome deals. In this post my main focus is on clothing and beauty stores. Before I list off the go-to shops where you can most likely catch a splendid Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale, I will be giving a few handy shopping tips that can help prepare you for the rush.

TIPS: What to do before the sale season

1) Be sure to have sufficient funds: Whether its liquid cash in your wallet or on a debit/credit card, ensure you have enough ahead of time. Nothing is ever free.... unless you are super lucky. It is best to set a budget of how much you are willing to spend as well. Have money set aside way before you go to any store or visit any website. Considering the spectacular bargains, there is no way you could go without purchasing at least one item. If you plan to do window shopping or screen shopping as I like to say, avoid dong so Thanksgiving Week.... Truth is, you will only become depressed.  This tip is even more important for online shoppers. During this kind of time it may seem difficult when so many people are buying at once, therefore do not hesitate. Percentages may drop and go up but in the end almost every store you love or find when searching the web will have something you want at a reasonable price and you don't want to miss out.

2) Create a shopping wishlist: Planning is always a brilliant idea. I am obviously a pro at this. Of course, whiles shopping there may be some things you see that you never expected to get. However, try to make a list before you go on a hunt to find things you really want to buy. This makes an even smaller headache for those who are doing in-store shopping. Instead of looking around an entire store when there are hundreds doing the exact same, keep in mind exactly what you desire to have at a stealing price and pick up those items first. Online shoppers can also start saving items in their carts at least 3 days before sale date. You will certainly spend less time finding what you want before it ends up being sold out. Nothing hurts more than when the e-boutique is out of something that you had your eye on for a while. It has happened to me so many times before. It's now my biggest nightmare.

TIPS: What to do during the sale season

1) Start as early as possible: Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the most popular dates. However, some stores begin their sales a week ahead. There is absolutely no problem with beginning early. It's a whole week of deals, so take advantage of them. The Monday before Thanksgiving is when stores usually start huge promotions. There are so many benefits of getting shopping done during the first few days. You avoid longer lines as opposed to running into the massive crowd of shoppers that wait until Black Friday. In addition, you can get an item before its eventually sold out.

2) Pay very close attention to details: It is extremely crucial to be aware of the particular restrictions that may apply to some stores. While most places have store-wide sales, some may only take a percentage off of selected items. Also when dealing with online stores, a sale may be going on up until a certain time. It could possibly be the biggest upset if you end up missing it, so be sure to read exactly how their sale goes. Reading can also be a relief. Some stores extend their sales beyond Cyber Monday and you have extra time to shop. What could possibly get better than that?

3) Don't look past anything: Whether they are offering 20%, 30%, 50% or 90% discounts ... maybe even free shipping, try not to overlook anything you desire because you probably would never see them at such low prices ever again. If the store is the only place you can find such an item, minimize second guessing and embrace anything you can get.

4) Search everywhere: This may be contradicting the tip above but if the time is available try to browse before making a purchase once there is more than one store selling the same item. Some deals may be better than the next and you may be able to find the exact piece at a lower price. Weigh out your options before being so quick to buy. How heart breaking can it be if you find a dress at 20 bucks after buying it for $40? Seriously, the worst feeling.

5) Make the most of it: Attempt using as much codes and coupons as you can. If you can manage to bring down a price for something that you really want to as low as $1, do not be ashamed to do so.

6) Shop patiently and smartly: If you are going to be an in-store shopper, do not be discouraged by the long lines. The queue may be wrapped around an entire building but continue to remember that the price is all worth it. Patience is key! For online shoppers, be very advised that these stores run out of items very quickly. I cannot express this enough. You cannot leave items in your cart for a while expecting it to be there when you return. Sometimes prices even change after a certain point of time. Make purchases immediately unless rules vary for particular stores.
