My Thoughts: Project Runway Junior

6:33:00 PM

It's week 3 of Project Runway Junior and I've been attentively watching like I watch Big Brother in the summer. I am a massive fan of Project Runway as a whole, but this season, it's truly special. It's the first ever junior edition and I couldn't be more enthusiastic about this version. The show began with twelve contestants all under the age of 18. It is impressive to see how talented, creative and brilliant these people are at such tender ages. I swear, some of them are better than past contestants who were fully grown adults. It amazes me each episode when I watch these young individuals compete so hard and give their best. Week after week I'm thrilled by a masterful piece that I envision seeing at fashion week in the future. Even those who aren't my favourites this season, I must say that I am proud. Being a teen myself, it's inspiring to see those in my age bracket go above and beyond expectations.
Now its time to analyse the cast. I'll briefly list all of the cast members (even those who were eliminated already) and give my thoughts on them... Telling you my best and not so favourite looks from them so far and even stating my top contestants. Here we go........

Sami is 16 from California. She was eliminated the first week and I am still screaming #Justice4Sami! She definitely did not deserve to go at the time that she was sent home. Sami stood out to me as soon as she was introduced and the way the judges decided to give up on her so quickly really puzzles me. During the New-York inspired challenge, she was the only one that opted to think outside of the box which impressed me so much. Instead of developing a design that was influenced by sky scrapers laying in the city, unlike everyone else, she was more motivated by the taxi cabs. The dress that she made actually conveyed her insight and it was extremely unique in my opinion. She did a pretty decent job. There may have been a few constructional errors but I thought she should have gotten another shot solely because her originality. There were other designs that I actually thought looked worst (you'll find out whose I'm talking about) and her dress was honestly no reason to send her home.

Ysabel is a 17 year old also from California. She left during week 2. She was interesting. I mean, her smile was interesting. She smiles so much, it's weird but other than that, she seems to be a gem. Truthfully, I do not think she is at the competency level of the other designers. Her designs are often chic and trendy but she desperately needs her looks to be a bit more top notch. Her first challenge was actually nice and acceptable. I loved the little black dress... but after that she went downfall. The design that she came up with for the second challenge was awful. Maybe I should give her a beak because it was unconventional but the judges obviously didn't. She got sent home because of that piece and I can't blame them at all.. She seems super sweet and I started to feel bad for her until I remembered, "it's a competition." She just has to grow in the field a bit more, sharpen her skills and she will be great.

If this post was solely about Bridget, I'd probably mention how obsessed I am with her hair color about 100 times. However, aside from beauty she is genuinely an artist. The 16 year old is from a city in Massachusetts and she is just one of my favourites. Her designs display total elegance and sophistication every time she puts her hands to work. Personally, I thought her best runway look was last week and the judges obviously agreed by  making her the winner of the challenge. Her weakest was probably the unconventional one. It looked a bit 'elementary level' to me and I knew she could've done better. It's clear to viewers that she has what it takes though. She is a specialist at flowy dramatic ensembles and its tat perfect glamorous touch needed in this competition.

Zach is 15 and a Kentucky native. He also brings the much needed grand couture-like aspect to the show. He professionalizes mainly in evening wear and during each challenge he as been able to show exactly that. He is a strong competitor and I adore his personality. His recent two designs were A+ to me. Especially, the last one. The pant suit he created was a big wow factor (along with Bridget's design) and he gave exquisite a new meaning. His first design just did not cut it, in my opinion. It looked like a piece made for quinceanera that I definitely was not here for but he gave me a sense of hope through out the following weeks. His noticeable strength is managing to master an ideal bodice. He focuses mainly on a alluring top that makes his designs very pleasing.

Seventeen from Ohio, Victoria is a cool cat! Many episodes I wish she had a bigger personality (I seriously had to use google to remember who she actually is). She isn't a huge star but she is a damn great designer. Her style embodies punk grunge edginess and she portrays that in every challenge. Black is her go-to hue and although I am anticipating the day she opts to incorporate color into one of her looks, she's good for now. She was one that did well with the unconventional challenge but the last challenge was probably my favourite from her (yes, she was apart of the winning team). I wasn't really feeling her design in Week 1. It was way too visible how much the buildings inspired her and it was a lot going on that I couldn't understand.

We all have favorites but you know that one person you want to see win the entire thing? Samantha  is that contestant for me. From the start, I gravitated fully to this girl. She is 16, from New York, and she embodies, city chic. Flawless designs... challenge, after challenge, she is definitely one I can absolutely see making it big in the future.  She is like the creator of making street wear a STATEMENT. Her garments are all versatile and she keeps me wanting more. I can't even decide whether her first challenge look or the second week was better.  Week 3 she performed good as well, but she did not do it to the best of her capacity which landed her in the bottom two. She is a confident and proficient leader and this competition and even if she doesn't win I NEED her to go far.

Little Miss Peytie is 15 from California. As one who consistently stays true to her design aesthetic, she is favourable as well. No matter what's the challenge, she never fails to create a design that seems ocean-inspired. Her looks give a free-spirit soothing vibe and it certainly matches her personality. I swear every time I see her on my tv screen a beach wave emoji pops up in my head. She did not stick out to me much during the 1st and 3rd week as much as she did during the 2nd week. Her unconventional design was priceless. I loved the set that she made so much, I became a fan after she showcased it.  Honestly, I can see Peytie possibly designing for brands like Pacsun one day. She's perfect with patterns and her style is distinct.

Being the youngest, only 13, Maya leaves me speechless every single episode. At 13, I was busy trying to presentably cut my hair bangs and at 13 she's sewing fabrics. She is amazing. My initial thought on her was "Oh, she's young. We'll give her chance but she's probably less experienced".... however, she proved me wrong. This girl is in it to win it and I love her energy. In one challenge she chose to help another one of the designer once she was done and that just revealed a humble personality. She snatched my heart ever since. Her designs resemble Michael Kors a bit which s important because she listed him as one her favorite designers. Her best look was last week. Considering that she was on the losing team, she still did an awesome job. I did not like her first design too much but she is gifted.

Zachary, 16, from California and he's probably the person I like the least out of the 12. I'm just like what's there to love about this guy? I mean, I guess his past two designs prove that he is an adept designer but I cannot see HOW he got though the first week. His Week 1 design was hot mess express as Matt would say... For some reason the judges are really liking him but I'm not too fond of his personality on the show. Notice the amount of shade he throws to other contestants... it's super annoying. Last episode was the absolute turn off. He was so worried about what the other team was doing rather than focusing on himself which had me so frustrated. I seriously which he would give us a bad design again sooner or later so that he can be sent home. I may sound petty, but I'm just being honest.

He may be another 17 year old and another Californian, but Matt is his own character. Just as he said in the last episode, he's like a cat with 9 lives. Personality wise, I love him! He reminds me of Christian Siriano (whose a judge). Their commentary will have you laughing all night but of course this show isn't all about comedy. I'm honestly not a huge fan of any of his designs. The unconventional challenge was actually his worst and I think he should've been sent home by now. The judges keep sparing him though. I guess he makes good tv... which I can agree with. Anyone who can compare fabrics to split peas soup is a reality star! If Matt sticks around, I want to see him improve massively. The best look from him was from the first challenge and even that wasn't incredibly great to me.

Jesse is 16 and from Massachusetts. He's super artsy and I'm crazy about his designs. The fact that he made his first gown at the age of five still has my jaw dropped but I guess the 11 year experience is the reason why his looks are always so polished. He's outstanding. His looks are very modern and last week's creation was probably my least favourite from him because he could've done more. He mastered the unconventional challenge though. It's one my top looks from the season so far. I really hope Jesse survives long in this competition. He deserves to because he truly great at his craft.

Another one of my favorites on this show is 15 year old Jaxson from Kansas. His "diary of a wimpy kid" appearance totally differs from his design aesthetic. His looks are always vibrant. Although I wish he would stray away from the repetitive draining crop tops, he does the trend justice (unlike Matt). His best was indeed the first challenge. I was pleased with the fact that Samantha won but second place in my book, goes to him. The moment I saw the flavourful structured design, I was in awe. The creation of the skirt itself, had me captivated. I wasn't too fascinated by unconventional design he did besides making a unique pair of shorts. All in all, he's fantastic!

If you haven't be sure to watch the show and comment with your views on the episodes as well ass the cast! Also stay tuned for a live periscope that I will do during a future episode. I cannot wait to see who will win. This will be interesting.
