Fashion Review: NAACP Awards 2016

10:52:00 PM

Last Saturday evening, there were numerous elite celebrities on a red carpet in Hollywood once again. Some that are usually spotted on my best dressed list, and some landing their first rank. At this event, the spotlight was mainly on those of black race which was pretty suitable considering the fact that it's currently black history month (Yes, the month Stacey Dash said we shouldn't have.... We're still celebrating boo.) The NAACP awards each year is super exciting for me. Along with the BET awards, it's truly heart warming to see African Americans come together to lift up one another. Black excellence was surely portrayed on the carpet... and I'm not only talking melanin... It was powerful in attire as well. Many walked in ravishing ensembles and here are my favorites:

This dashing couple made their red carpet debut for the year and looked amazing as usual. Not sure if I'm more obsessed with the gorgeous black dress Chrissy wore show off her baby bump or John's sharp navy suit.

Sparking a pop of color, actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw posed in a very graceful yellow gown designed with savvy side cut-outs.

Eva Marcille arrived in a stylish black high neck piece with bold details at the upper portion and a sheer bottom.

The insanely beautiful Sanaa Lathan glowed in a scarlet colored form fitting frock with its choker neckline. Her sleek ponytail is also to die for! I absolutely love this well put together look.

Another star to rock the turtle neck trend was Darby Stanchfield. She made a huge statement in a richly decorated dark grey garment from a Yanina Couture Collection.

Snatched honey! Miss Cookie herself, Taraji P. Henson did not disappoint in Balmain. The nude long-sleeve crossover dress is extremely flavourful.

Gabrielle Union stunned everyone in a stylistic melange. Her fabulous black gown was created with elegant lace and fun tulle. The up-to she opted for also completed her arresting look.

Grace Gealey works it in a soft and subtle lavender confection. Crafted with embellishment and a little see through, skin was also displayed with the plummeting v-neckline.

Stepping out as well was young beauty, Teyonah Parris. She had on a ground touching gown with a gold bodice topped off with black mesh fabric. What made her outfit even more posh was the metallic gold belt that accentuated her waist.

Empire stars came for the win. This other doll, Serayah kept it fashionable in a flattering black number. With its generous cuts at the chest and leg area, her look defines sexy.

Tracee Ellis Ross looked outstanding in black also! The high shoulder, lengthy front slit design by Rubin Singer was perfect for this natural sensation.

Tammy Townsend attended in red and black and the chic off the shoulder dress she wore with its oversized ruffles and edgy zipper at the side looked super cool!

TV personality Claudia Jordan's evening wear comprised of a fine array constructed with a snazzy halter and an attached skirt with sparkly embroidery.

Laura Govan gave more spectacular style on the carpet by wearing an exotic blush tone piece. The cropped sides revealed her alluring midriff and the fringe-like details were the perfect enhancements.

The most glamorous look of all was on Naturi Naughton. Her delicate lacy gown was nothing short of consummate.

Another gent in blue, Neil Brown Jr. wore a spruce fit that included a complementing colored blazer with its silky lapels.

Gaining points each day on my man crush monday chart, Creed star Michael BabyWontYouComeMyWay Jordan stole awards for his acting performance but also best dressed in my book.

Nate Parker dressed in all black as well but the cultural pin attached to the side of his coat was just the right accent for an eye catching look.

Bow tie mania! Host Anthony Anderson intricate wine shaded tuxedo looked dynamic.

Colors for the men.... Definitely a trend. Bryshere Grey effortlessly brings out his fashion best again and showed out in a bright green and black jacket.

Keeping it going for all the award shows with great style this season, this NAACP awards makes me proud.
