Beauty Tip: Perfect Dark & Lovely Lip Shade For The Winter

10:10:00 AM

In the makeup world, spring time and summer certainly call for bright festive colours however, in fall and the winter, we tend to opt for darker hues. Whether it's shadows, blush tones, or lipsticks, I'm pretty sure everyone decides to color co-ordinate their cosmetics for the season. Winter is still here. I mean, can't you tell? I've been sleeping with at least 3 blankets for the past few nights... It's so cold. Other than the weather, I'm very fond of this time of the year. Not only does fall/winter clothing make me excited, but dark lip colors are my newest obsessions. I'd like to say since November, I've been rocking gloomy shades on my lips more than ever. From warm nudes, to electrifying plums, deep reds and even pigmented browns, my palette continues to give me the right look for this period.

Being dark-skinned, I must admit I was really timid about putting dark colors on my lips. I already gained the confidence to try red lips but I just couldn't see myself wearing something darker. One day I tried it... I tried it for the sake of it and I loved it. Now I can't stop.

For dark skin girls in particular, I would say never be afraid to try something you like. I realized that society has put us in a 'complexion box' and its up to us to see how much we like something on ourselves. Seriously, any skin tone, maroon lips are perfect!

My go-to lip-shimmers would be the "All Night Long" lip stain that I got from Victoria Secret and my brown gloss from the Forever 21 Love and Beauty Bold Pigmented Lipgloss Set.

For a matte finish, which is my favorite, I usually use "Dark Plum Scene" by Ruby Kisses

In addition, you can also create colors by adding a little eye shadow to any gloss. A dark-burgundy or plum shadow will make your lips the ultimate shade.

I'm extremely happy I've been able to pull of this make-up trend lately. If you haven't yet, try it.. I'm sure you'll enjoy having it on just as much as I do. For a romantic day time look or a edgy night time look, it doesn't even matter, it's a winter must-have!

Here are some other similar dark lipsticks/glosses that you can purchase and try:

  • “All Out Gorgeous” by Mac
  • “Viva Glam IV” by Mac
  • “Volga” by NARS
  • “Heroine” by Mac
  • “Mulberry” by Smashbox
  • “Hang-up” by Mac
  • “32 Irish Coffee” by SEPHORA
  • “Instigator” “Punk Couture” “Studded Kiss” or “Hautecore”  by MAC
If you've been inspired by this tip, take a flick of yourself wearing the lip shade and be sure to send it to me for a feature!
