Fashion: My Closet Staples
6:56:00 PM
Often we hear about fashion staple items but it can seem difficult to determine what's exactly considered to be a staple... A staple is a basic piece. It's that article in your closet that you bought to go with almost anything you put on. The beauty behind it is that you can wear it so many times, no one would even notice once you style it differently. They're the fundamental items in your wardrobe..... The pieces you can't ever get enough of. Staple garments are usually created with a straight color or texture. They rarely consist of printed fabrics. Mainly items tend to be denim, leather, wool, white, black, neutral etc...
Whether it's a pant, top, skirt, dress or outerwear... Staples are most importantly, timeless. You can dress down or dress up in an article without hesitation.
I recently did some closet analysing and decided to pick out my personal staple pieces to share with you all. Ofcourse, I had some fun styling each item for a day time (casual) and night-time (dressy) look to prove its versatility. I selected eight garments. This is usually the number to start off with in a normal closet. Celebrities and popular style gurus probably have 30 plus staples in their closet but I'm quiet content with my number (for now).
Here are my staples:
1) The Ripped Boyfriends
The word boyfriend may be used too loosely. I may not have a relationship but I'm in love with these baggy cuffed pair of jeans. The distressed look generates a very edgy sense for any fit and it's high waisted...so chic!
As you can see, it looks perfect with any cropped top.
2) The Pencil Skirt
Nothing feels better getting into this comfy lightweight midi bodycon skirt. The jersey fabric is ideal for a sporty or flirty outfit and the grey hue complements any color that I decide to add to it.
Here, I opted for two evidently distinct tops as well.
3) The Denim Blouse
I'll never give up on the good ole' faithful chambray. Keeping up with my ootd's, you've probably noticed my obsession. It's super trendy and I love throw it on over almost anything especially if it's too warm for thicker outerwear.
The fact that I can wear it buttoned up or unbuttoned (as shown in picture) additionally makes this piece extremely useful.
4) The Midi Black Dress
We can always be accustomed to a little black dress, but the midi black dress in my closet is the new classic. I'm here for the fitted frock being my go-to when I'm not trying to be too elegant. It's cozy and makes me feel rather sexy.
The simple color makes it easy to go together with literally everything!
5) The Plain White Tee
What's black without white in your list of staples? Believe it or not this long sleeve cropped tee is a fun piece solely because it can be styled with ANYTHING. You can't go wrong with it.
The top is like any essential white tee in an outfit... Laid back and resourceful.
5) The Leather Jacket
I would say this biker jacket is my most stylish staple. The smooth glossy leather texture generates a richness for the black color which makes it more than just a basic.
I can layer it over a shirt or a shift (like shown in the photo) and still have an overall modish grunge look.
7) The Denim Jacket
This is my favorite of all! A denim jacket is always a must have... you can get away with it any given season. Every jacket calls for layering, and having this in my closet makes the job easier and cooler.
This bright washed ensemble is the ultimate staple to dress with festive colors and prints.
8) The Black Skinnies
Other than the fact that these skinnies fit me like a glove, I love wearing it because it fills the gap whenever I think I need a new pair of bottoms.
The fact that it's black allows me to wear it so many times.
Have you invested in any staple pieces yet? It's great shopping for statement items but a staple is always your best bet... You can style in them everyday if you have to .... and for any occasion.
