Style Story: The Inauguration
2:52:00 PMSurronded by hundreds of people in such a tense atmosphere, I heard an attendant's voice over the intercom announce another delayed flight. Everyone sighed synchronously but the excitement in my body did not allow me to. I'm beyond thrilled to finally see my family. It's been an entire semester since my last visit home. I'm Tara Brown and I'm a sophomore at Princeton University... one of the most prestigious institutions in the country, where I am a history major. My ultimate dream is to become a fashion historian and to one day build an empire with iconic designers. I've always had a growing passion for the industry and I cannot wait to embark on my career. On another note, it's refreshing to finally take a break from Chanel archives and our ivory covered campus. It's time to go back to my home town in California for a few days. It's not a recess period at the college but my dad is being sworn in as the state's governor this week. I promised him that I would be in attendance so fortunately, I got all of my work done before leaving. There are major snowstorms and blizzards currently hitting our area but I know that I could count on LA's beautiful balmy weather once I get there. Finally they called my flight. I guess I waited long enough. My airport attire is super chic and simple.
I have on a rosy blush tone high neck crop jumper along with a pair of moto black ripped denim shorts which are almost unquestionable for the expected west coast climate that I'm about to encounter. To achieve a winter aspect in my look however, I layer the top and bottom with a cozy grey midi swing coat. Slipped on-to my feet are trendy Fendi FFlynn FF Shearling Fur Sneakers and my lips are shimmering a soft nude tint. My accessories include a classic black Michael Kors 'Selma' medium sized satchel, a pair of Dior 'So Real' sunglasses framed black and gold, a set of gold double slit midi rings, and chunky gold rhombus shaped hoop earrings, With my Stella McCartney 'Falabella' suitcase arrangement, I boarded the aircraft in style.
Landing at LAX, I feel amazing. My family are all so overjoyed to see me. A tear trickled from my eye as I walked out and saw my mom waiting at the baggage claim. We then walked over to the blacked out government official labelled car and as the driver opened the door, I screamed. There sits my father and two siblings, all ecstatic for us to be reunited. We're now on our way home and I just received a text from my high school friends. They all heard that I'm in town and they want to go out tonight for a bite to eat. I know my parents will be a little disappointed that I'm headed out to dinner on my first night here but I know I will not have much free time during the rest of my stay. As we got home, they were surprisingly unbothered.
I headed upstairs and I'm changing into a slim leather black skinny jeans styling it with a white Versace cropped high rise tank top and a dynamic orange colored trench vest. With outfit making patent leather leopard print pumps, I'm keeping jewellery to a minimum by wearing a crafty statement Rosantica gold choker along with solid matching stud earrings. In addition, I'm carrying a black faux leather trapeze satchel. Giving my parents a kiss goodbye, my driver escorted me to Nobu... a fancy place my friends and I usually hang. Its our favorite.
The following day, it's inauguration day. I'm so proud of my dad and I know today will be wonderful. The glam team just arrived for my family and I feel relieved because I hadn't bought anything for this occasion. I have faith in our stylist, Monica Rose, a fashion extraordinaire and I'm fully depending on her to give me the ideal look. Luckily, she came through!
I dressed in an artsy esplanade brocade printed dress designed by Zimmermann. The details of the frock are perfection. It has metallic patterns and a v-wired neckline. The bodice is fully boned and has a cut-out element that is absolutely appealing. The dress felt like it was just enough for the function but it rocked it with BCBG gold studded ankle strap sandal high heels and wicked burgandy lips. I also wore a suede black and gold Saint Laurent shoulder clutch, a gold plated bracelet adorned with a pearl and a set of faceted cube stud black and gold earrings. We are now at the presidential event and I'm having a glorious time. The ceremony was short and sweet. My dad was sworn in amongst other dignified elected leaders, family and close friends. I couldn't be happier for this milestone in his life.
Later, we moved back to our residence where a celebratory party is being held.
I transitioned into this sexy Posh Girl fitted leather black strapless dress paired with red hot Giuseppe Zanotti strappy suede sandal heels and a rich snake print envelope clutch. On my arm is shining a custom silver Cartier love bangle and to match,I ave on a multi crystal ring along with black and sterling silver onyx earrings. The night is completely filled with laughter, cheerful toasts to my father, and I cannot forget about the entertaining dancing.
After such a huge day yesterday, my mom and I decided to have some quality time and take a breather while dad is having his first day in office and my siblings are at school.
Suited in a neon-yellow scuba skater skirt and a black and white striped crop tank top, I am sporting the pieces with a flowy white blazer. To enhance the light jacket a bit, I have a pair of glitzy deep sea starfish pins fastened onto the lapel and to correspond are my gold metallic loafers. My shoes are not the only articles in the aureate hue. My outfit is completed with a gold mirror plated Moschino box clutch, a gold Michael Kors watch, and gold v-shaped earrings. On my head lies a big brim black hat and I have on vintage gold and black round eye sunnies. We drove up to Malibu to have brunch and I must say, it's been a while since we did this. When I lived home, my mom and I would always travel here on weekends to go on the beach. It feels like old times and I'm enjoying every second of it.
Before going back, I have one last time to do. I forgot to mention that I'm also a part-time model. I'm signed to Wilemenia... a successful modelling agency and they usually have huge gigs set uo for me when I'm home. Today I'm shooting with one of my favorite brands, Wildfox. They're doing some launching shots for their new sunglasses line so this should be fun. The aesthetic of the shoot is super interesting and cool.
Geared up in a deep v-cut halter neck black bodysuit and a quirky black and yellow measurement print knee length bodycon skirt designed by Moschino with distinctive twill fabric, I modelled in another garment from their collection, the matching two toned coat. My scarlet lips popped with the glossy pointed toe red pumps on my feet and from my ears dangled brassy black and gold ornaments by Marc Jacobs. My midi rings resembled in color while I posed in the signature black Wildfox couture granny frame cat eye sunglasses. I spent my entire day in front of the camera and it was terrific!
It's now time to return to school... to the cold, lonely place I never want to call home.
I travelled back in an olive green thermal cotton distressed Yeezy tank with a pair of skinny blue jeans. Prompted that I am indeed going back to cold temperatures, I'm wearing biscuit colored wool boyfriend coat and matching fashion forward suede ankle boots. I have a decorative patch-work tote with floral designed handles which goes along well with this fit and other accessories comprise of a retro chocolate colored wooden watch, champagne rose old cross drop earrings, a rhinestone hollow out bracelet and mixed angular gold rings. Being far way from my family is depressing but I am glad that I decided to come this week. I certainly won't be homesick for a while.
THE END
